Nature Documentaries Are So Much Better in Aziz Ansari-Speak

Normally, the narrator for nature documentaries speaks in a calm, relaxed, academic-sounding voice. Actors with soothing voices like Morgan Freeman or famed naturalists like David Attenborough are the types who take us on our journeys through the animal kingdom. They narrate the events of the wild in dulcet tones and calmly describe the action happening onscreen in a way that’s both engaging and weirdly calming.

…So when Netflix glitched for Imgur user BenMeiri84 and started subtitling a nature documentary with lines from Aziz Ansari‘s stand up special, Live at Madison Square Garden, he got a bit confused. While the results weren’t as magical as having Ansari actually narrate the documentary with lines from his stand up, the screenshots BenMeiri84 took of the Ansari’d documentary are pretty hilarious.

Unfortunately, if you’re looking to watch Planet Earth as narrated by Attenborough and subtitled by Aziz, you’re out of luck. The glitch has apparently been fixed, and everything matches up correctly (though someone should definitely check to make sure Planet Earth subtitles aren’t popping up on Ansari’s stand up special). Thankfully, BenMeiri84 took several pictures of his journey through Aziz Ansari Presents Planet Earth, so we can all enjoy them for years to come. You can head to his Imgur post to check out all of the hilarity for yourself.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to start a campaign to get Aziz Ansari and Ben Schwartz to narrate the next Planet Earth. I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of anything better than getting Jean Ralphio and Tom Haverford to sing “She’s the wooooooorst” over video of a predator attacking its unassuming prey.

Did you get to experience the unintentional Aziz Ansari/Planet Earth mashup? Do you have any weird Netflix glitch stories? Tell us about it in the comments!
