Thanks to her appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow has risen in prominence to become one of the most popular Marvel heroines. Thatâs one of the reasons that Marvel is relaunching the Black Widow ongoing series with the A-list creative team of writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee. Waid and Samneeâs recent Daredevil run was fantastic, and theyâre bringing their blend of comics action to Black Widow.
However, the arrival of Waid and Samnee means bad news for the Black Widow herself. For years, sheâs balanced the scales of working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and serving among Earthâs mightiest heroes in the Avengers. But now Natasha Romanoff is S.H.I.E.L.D.âs most wanted fugitive as sheâs forced to go on the run!
Hereâs Marvelâs solicitation text for Black Widow # 1:
âShe has spent years gathering secrets. Knowledge and intel on friends and enemies alike. But when some of those dark secrets mysteriously begin to go public, no one is safe! Now, Natasha has become the one thing she never thought sheâd be â public enemy number one! Betrayed by her former accomplices, with friend and foe alike nipping at her heels, all bets are off. With a lifetime of training and ingenuity at her disposal, sheâs out for answers, and sheâs going to get them any way she can. As long as S.H.I.E.L.D. doesnât get her first!â
Marvel has released the first four pages of Black Widow # 1, which features Natashaâs escape from the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. You can read all four pages in our gallery below, which also includes several covers by Samnee, Phil Not, Tula Lotay, John Tyler Christopher, Kevin Wada, and Skottie Young.
