Natalie Alyn Lind Moves to GOTHAM as Silver St. Cloud

Another character from the Batman mythos is joining Gotham this fall.

Natalie Alyn Lind has been cast as Silver St. Cloud, a young heiress who will be the love interest of Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). Like Bruce, Silver is an orphan, and they both look up to her uncle, Theo Galavan, a billionaire philanthropist who is running to be the next mayor of Gotham City.

Lind is best known for her role on The Goldbergs as Dana Caldwell, but she has also appeared in One Tree Hill, Army Wives, Wizards of Waverly Place, iCarly, and Criminal Minds.

To call Silver St. Cloud a “love interest” really undersells her importance in Batman’s history. As created by Steve Englehart and Mike Gold in 1977, Silver was one of the great loves of Bruce Wayne’s life. She even realized the truth about Bruce’s heroic alter ego when she recognized him in costume as the Batman. That knowledge ultimately drove Silver and Bruce away from each other.

Silver St Cloud
Silver was eventually written out of the Batman titles and she appeared only sporadically in the ensuing decades. Her most recent appearance was in Kevin Smith and artist Walt Flanagan’s 2009 miniseries, Batman: The Widening Gyre. However, that miniseries ended with a cliffhanger about Silver’s fate that has never been resolved.

Gotham’s incarnation of Silver St. Cloud is described as “having a heart beating with dark intent.” That’s not really consistent with Silver’s comic book portrayal, but Gotham hasn’t always shown fidelity to the comics that spawned it.

The second season of Gotham will premiere on Monday, September 21.
