NANCY DREW and THE HARDY BOYS Get 21st Century Comic Series

NANCY DREW and THE HARDY BOYS Get 21st Century Comic Series

They are usually the gateway drug for young people into a life of consuming mystery and detective fiction, and have been around now for decades, becoming an ever-present part of American pop culture. Nope, I’m not talking about Scooby-Doo and the Mystery, Inc. gang, I’m referring to teenage pulp novel detectives Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.

Both sets of characters started to appear in young adult novels in the late 1920’s, have since gone on to appear in movies and TV shows galore, and just the names “Nancy Drew” and “Hardy Boys” have become shorthand for saying “teenage detective.” Now the characters, which were created and owned by the same publishing house, are teaming up in the world of comics, thanks to Dynamite Entertainment.

Thanks to the folks at The A.V. Club, we’ve learned that the new Dynamite Comics series Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys: The Big Lie brings the characters into the 21st century in a big way,  as the Hardy brothers, Frank and Joe, end up being accused of murdering their own detective father. With no one else to turn to, the boys then reach out to “local femme fatale” Nancy Drew, in order to help solve the mystery and clear their names, sending the trio on a mysterious new adventure.

The new Dynamite series is coming from the creative team of writer Anthony Del Col, best known for Kill Shakespeare, and artist Werther Dell’Edera (House Of Mystery, Cobra) along with colorist Stefano Simeone. The new series hits the stands on March 8, and in the meantime, you can check out a preview of of the first several unlettered pages from the first issue, as well as several variant covers for issue #1, down below in our gallery.
