MuskWatch: SpaceX Plans to Build a City on Mars!

After four unsuccessful attempts, Elon Musk’s SpaceX finally landed a Falcon 9 booster on an autonomous drone earlier this week. That may not sound very impressive, but it could be the first step towards a reusable rocket that is capable of escaping the Earth’s atmosphere, which is—in a word—huge. Almost anyone else in the world would be satisfied with such an achievement and call it a week. But not Elon Musk, as you’ll see in today’s MuskWatch!

Join senior editor Dan Casey and science editor Kyle Hill as they dive into Musk’s plans to claim the Red Planet for himself—we’re talking Mars, people! Now all ol’ Musky needs is a couple sharks with frickin’ laserbeams attached to their heads!

But in all seriousness, Musk has announced that in September he’s going to unveil his plans to establish a city on Mars. Dan and Kyle are convinced that Musk just wants the Red Planet to provide larger caves for his bats, but we think he’s eyeing a supervillain base upgrade from the ol’ volcano hideout. Wait until the Legion of Doom sees this!

Also discussed, Musk’s previously established fear of Skynet and rogue artificial intelligence, and how it hasn’t stopped him from launching OpenAI. Thanks to Dan and Kyle, we now know how OpenAI could give computers the ability to learn and experience just like humanity. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario?

What do you think about Musk’s plans for Open A-I? Are you ready to greet our new cybernetic overlords? And if given the chance to live in Mars’ first city, would you take it? Hop on a rocket and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
