The first post I ever wrote for the Nerdist was about the lovely and talented Neko Case. My tastes have evolved and, occasionally, devolved since then, but when I heard “Night Still Comes” this week, I had an aching moment of nostalgia that brought me back to the first time I really listened to the country singer in college. It was autumn, and I felt like a real person because I had just moved into a really shitty (but awesome) house with my friends. Oddly enough, that has just happened again. I am now roommates with Stupid Bob yet again and currently sleeping on a “street couch” in a room with no closet. All of this is to say that sometimes evolution takes the form of seemingly familiar transition, but no experiences are ever really congruent. This is why I love Neko Case: I feel like I have heard this song before, but that is also the reason I am going to keep listening to it. Check it out, then hit repeat a bunch of times.
