Music Geek Track of the Day: Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, and Juicy J’s “Shell Shocked”

Nobody do it better, all my brothers trying to get some cheddar, we all want our cut like the Shredder.” – Juicy J

Cowabunga, dudes! Continuing in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise’s rich tradition of having incredibly over-the-top, but somehow infectiously catchy tie-in songs, today’s Music Geek Track of the Day comes courtesy of the Taylor Gang crew: Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and Ty Dolla $ign. With production by Kill The Noise and Madsonik, “Shell Shocked” is, without a doubt, the most bangin’ Turtles jam since Master Splinter’s “Skipping Stones” on 1990’s “Coming Out of Their Shells” tour.

Seriously though, I’ve listened to this maybe three or four times in a row now and it’s pretty slick. Hard to argue with that thundering bass line. Don’t believe me? Put it on at your next party and watch what happens as booties begin to uncontrollably shake like they’re being transported to Dimension X.

The single hits iTunes tomorrow in advance of the film’s August 8th release, but you can turn up the bass, turn down for what, and bump this jam all Comic-Con long.

What do you think of this track? Let us know in the comments below or tell us on Twitter, @NerdistMusic!

This article is either pandering to the “nerd crowd” because the writer is out of touch or Nerdist is getting paid to promote this song. It’s shit. Like Michael Bay. I don’t blame you Dan Casey, I blame your boss. Since @Midnight premiered, the quality of Nerdist has dipped, imo. You guys seem to just say “YES” to everything, like you’re afraid to share an honest opinion and step on toes OR scared to stray from mainstream opinion (with the exception of Chobot, but I dunno if she writes her own material.) Nonetheless, still hopeful, still a fan (of Nerdist, not the Ninja-Turtle wrapped Bay turd.)

Fuck this song. You sir or maam have a bad taste in music. Bleh. They could have done anything but this. Another Vanilla Ice song would be better.

  3. SerenityValley84 says:

    That was, not surprisingly, awful.

  4. gatling216 says:

    Thought criminals did it better.

  5. bob says:

What does this have to do the the TMNT?  Other than the words shell shocked and turtle shell?  When did the TMNT become about being men of the hour, wearing Rolex’s or about making money????  Yea typical rap song maybe the studio should have listened to the raps lyrics before releasing this song for the movie.  Total crap!

  6. Alex says:

This is nice, but seeing as the last TMNT movie’s “hit” song was Shell Shock, could they have picked a different name?

  7. Carri says:

I can picture this as the closing movie song

  8. Kyle says:

Kind of odd that they picked the same song title as the CGI movie’s theme song by Gym Class Heroes (which, IMHO, is a lot more fun) but I can swallow this the same as with the nostrils thing and just get drunk on a new Turtles movie. 😀

Whoops, only two comments on the page before mine and I missed that you mentioned TMNT’s Shell Shock. I don’t know how I feel about it, either.
