Music Geek Track of the Day: Ty Segall Performs With A Spooky Ghost Band For ‘The Singer’

Sometimes, Ty Segall‘s howling sounds like it is about to pierce the space time continuum, allowing gaseous paranormal beings (ghosts) to enter our plane of existence and haunt us eternally. Which is why its such a super weird coincidence that one of our favorite L.A.-based garage rockers, Ty Segall, released a spoOoOoOky music video featuring his bandmates as translucent apparitions playing ghost instruments alongside him.

“The Singer”, though relatively subdued, is my favorite track from Segall’s new album Manipulator, which is certailny a contender for one of my favorite releases of the year (already time to start thinking about those year end lists, homies!). Instead of choosing a heavier track to lend these haunted visuals, which ultimately would have resulted in a slasher flick aesthetic, Segall’s decision to go full-ghost for “The Singer” is slightly woozier and potentially hypnagogic. I could see myself being semi-conscious and thinking that there were ghosts playing instruments near me (One time, I swear to god, I saw a pair of pants fly across the room in my childhood home).

Going to kick back and enjoy this pleasant Halloween track before things start to get super sensory-overload in the coming weeks. What I mean to say is, get ready for #Nerdoween to get even more intense, and we should all prepare for the awesomeness.

Saw Ty Segall at Bonnaroo this past year.  This band killed it.  Great stuff.
