There was a time in my life that if a song didn’t have an upbeat tempo and a fast horn line, I would have turned my nose up at it. Nowadays I’m proud to say that my taste in music has evolved so that I appreciate all sorts of things that cross genres and sound uniquely groovy.
Enter: Tame Impala and their second, shimmering single off their upcoming third album Currents: “Cause I’m a Man”.
The Australian group fronted by Kevin Parker announced their new album on their Facebook page yesterday with a picture of the album cover (below) and followed up with the brand new track you should be enjoying as we speak.
Vocally reminiscent of the Beck slow-jam “Debra“, “Cause I’m A Man” makes for a great morning stroll jam or, dare I say, sexy-time music. The majority of Tame Impala’s music operates in a similarly sonic realm. Usually described as a “psychedelic recording project” rather than a band, the group’s style manages to have found a balance of being effect pedal heavy without ever sounding over saturated. Listening to this song and then the rest of their discography makes me think that the band is comprised of members, somehow displaced in time from each decade since the 60s, who’ve come together with their particular strengths to make consistently catchy and quality music.
Considering their previous two albums were excellent (Lonerism was one of our favorites in 2012), we can’t wait to hear the rest of Currents.

For you dagnab kids braving Coachella this year you’ll be able to check them out this month; otherwise they’re spending the summer touring the U.S.
