Music Geek Track Of The Day: Best Coast Gets A Little Grungy In ‘Heaven Sent’

From the looks of it, Best Coast appear to be going grunge in their new video for “Heaven Sent,” off the band’s upcoming third album, California Nights, which comes out May 5.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the sunny indie-pop band has wrapped themselves up in flannel and stopped writing songs about beach life; however, the song does sound a little edgier than we’re used to hearing from Bethany Consentino & Co.

In fact, the Best Coast singer is looking way less like a surf bunny and more like a bonafide rock goddess–and that’s not just because she’s wearing a crown of roses in the clip. Though, it doesn’t hurt.

Can you hear how other female-led powerhouses like The Go-Go‘s and No Doubt have influenced the group’s ever-evolving sound? We sure can and if this is where the new tunes are heading, we can’t wait to hear more!

Speaking of hearing more, did you happen to catch Funny Or Die‘s new video venture called Dips? Apparently, it’s all the rage and a bunch of celebrities are already jumping on the bandwagon by uploading 1.5 seconds of stimulating video content to the site.

One of said celebs is, of course, Ms. Consentino and her contribution just might change the world*.

While you let all of that hilarity digest, we’ll leave you with a completely serious–and pretty amazing–performance of Consentino singing Beach Boys‘ “Don’t Worry Baby” from the other night’s Brian Fest celebrating Brian Wilson.

As we mentioned earlier, Best Coast’s new album, California Nights, comes out May 5 on Capitol Records subsidiary, Harvest Records. For more band-related headlines, follow them on Twitter at @Best_Coast.

*But probably not because the whole thing feels like a joke, which is totally appropriate seeing that it’s April Fool’s Day!
