Well this is exciting and groundbreaking news: Marvel Comics‘ newest Ms. Marvel is getting adapted for your auditory consumption! Teaming up with producers GraphicAudio yet again, this new Ms. Marvel production is the very first time they’ve adapted a story directly from the source comic book material. And while previous Marvel audio stories have been adapted by the company that bills their work as “a movie in your mind.” They’ve worked with Marvel properties before, âthey’ve created audio adventures for the X-Men, Spider-Man, The Avengers, and moreâit has never been directly from the page.
Ms. Marvel Vol. 1 No Normal is the collected edition of the first five issues of Kamala Khan’s debut as the newest Ms. Marvel and delves into her struggle with teenager-hood and the discovery of her new powers. Kamala is Pakistani-American and she is the first American Muslim superhero to lead their own title from a mainstream comics publisher. Her popularity soared almost immediately after her introduction, with young girls and women from all backgrounds finding strands of kinship with Kamala, thanks largely to co-creator and writer G. Willow Wilson’s skillful characterization.
Speaking on Kamala’s journey beyond the page and into the audiobook format, Marvel’s director of character development Sana Amanat has said, “the fact that this character is expanding beyond the comics page just goes to show how much she has resonated with a larger audience.” GraphicAudio has mixed Ms. Marvel in 5.1 stereo surround sound and has released a handful of trailers for the upcoming audio version of Khan’s adventures:
And here’s the same trailer, with some visual accompaniment:
And finally, the launch trailer featuring a voiceover cameo from the original Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers herself!
This audio version is a great way to get into Kamala’s storyâif you’re one of the few who haven’t picked up the books already. Will you be giving Ms. Marvel a try in your headphones when it releases on Monday, the 17th? Let us know below!
