MR. ROBOT Season Two Premiere, HARMONQUEST Trailer, and More

I have an item for your to-do list this week: Watch the season two premiere of Mr. Robot. If you missed the first season of the USA series, then start binging as soon as you can. We have some thoughts on the premiere in today’s TV-Cap, and you’ll also find a rundown of Nickelodeon’s Comic-Con swag, a new trailer for HarmonQuest, and more.

Of Course They Did. USA “leaked” the first hour of the Mr. Robot season two premiere a little early, and in an unusual way: by streaming it on Facebook Live. Very clever, right? They didn’t post the video afterward, so you either caught it or you didn’t. If you saw the premiere, read Alicia’s review and read The Hollywood Reporter’s five key takeaways. If you missed the stream, tune into the first episode of season two on July 13.

Howdy, Pardner. In the Preacher comics by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Jesse Custer often looks to a spirit of sorts for guidance, and that spirit is John Wayne. It’s an endearing part of his character, but it didn’t come up in the AMC adaptation until Sunday. We don’t see Custer commune with Wayne, but Tulip mentions Wayne is Custer’s favorite actor. Hopefully that means we’re one step closer to seeing a version of Wayne on screen. [Comic Book Resources, Image: Warner Bros.]

New Face in Town. Season three of Fargo has gained a new lead. Carrie Coon will star opposite Ewan McGregor as Gloria Burgle, the chief of the Eden Valley police department. [Deadline]

Serious Swag. I know it’s a crime to ask people to pick up Comic-Con exclusives for you (my rule of thumb is I wouldn’t ask it of anyone who isn’t on the shortlist of folks that would give me a kidney), but Nickelodeon’s offerings are making me reconsider my rules. They’re bringing a pile of goodies to Comic-Con, including items from Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and much more. See everything they’re selling here at Nerdist. Battle on TV. EA DICE’s Battlefield has been optioned by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. They’re planning to turn the video game into a television series. Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar would serve as co-executive producer and says they’ll focus on the “robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly fifteen years.” [Variety]

Change the Meaning. The comment sections of articles and YouTube videos are violent, harsh places, but John Oliver knows how to fix it. In a web exclusive from Last Week Tonight, Oliver tackles some YouTube comments and puts a positive spin on even the harshest of statements. I want to embrace his attitude. [Nerdist]

Missing Mark. The Outlander season two finale wrapped up Starz’s take on the second book in Diana Gabaldon’s series, Dragonfly in Amber. I don’t want to go into to spoilers, but let’s just say that something between Jamie and Claire was cut out, and book readers were surprised by that. Gabaldon and executive producer Ron Moore discuss the decision to leave said thing out at TVLine.

Cute Fixes Everything. Game of Thrones can get downright harsh and disturbing, but that can be fixed with adorable gifs. Artist Eran Mendal turned moments from each episode of season six into cute moving pieces of art. See the GIFs right this way (yes, there are spoilers).

Roleplaying to Life. Dan Harmon’s roleplaying dreams are coming to animated life in Seeso’s HarmonQuest. The comedy features Harmon and his pals playing Dungeons & Dragons with parts of their quests animated. All 10 episodes will drop on Seeso on July 14. [Slashfilm]

Pushing Pause. It’s a sad fact that we keep having shooting after shooting in the United States. And given recent events, USA has decided to hold off on the premiere of the Ryan Philippe and Omar Epps led Shooter. They’re pushing the debut of the series based on the 2007 film of the same name from July 19 to July 26. [The Hollywood Reporter]
