Doctor Strange

A little while back we started hearing rumors that Rachel McAdams was in discussions to join the cast of Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Now McAdams has confirmed those rumors. In a new interview with The Los Angeles Times, the actress was asked about Doctor Strange and “went out of her way to say that she’s not a ‘comic book snob’ and as of now, with regards to joining the Marvel world, ‘It’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all.'” If McAdams does end up joining the film, directed by Scott Derrickson, she’ll co-star with Benedict Cumberbatch (as the Sorcerer Supreme) and Tilda Swinton (as the Ancient One). Doctor Strange is scheduled to start shooting in November at Pinewood-Shepperton in the UK. It arrives in theaters on November 4, 2016.

X-Men: Apocalypse

One Marvel movie rumor ends and another begins… Patrick Stewart has been spotted on the X-Men: Apocalypse set. Word is the actor attended this weekend’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, where the film is being shot. But might his visit to the set have somehow inspired director Bryan Singer (who shared the following photo via Instagram) to work him into the film in a cameo? Who wants to start speculating?!

Meanwhile, the film’s new Scott Summers (better known as Cyclops), actor Tye Sheridan, had a few words to say about his character to IndieWire:

“[Playing Cyclops has] forced me to use everything I’ve learned playing all the characters I have. My character is angry and a bit lost, which I feel like is where I’ve met a lot of my characters – in these sort of young life transitions where they’re struggling to figure things out about themselves. He’s now learning about being a mutant and trying to handle his superhero powers. The arc for the character is really cool for me – it’s not like I’m just stepping into it and I’m a superhero and it’s cool and all that with the suit. You kind of see the progression of this character – where he comes from, what he has to overcome and where he goes at the end of the film. It’s a great arc.”

Co-starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Lucas Till, Josh Helman, Lana Condor, and Ben Hardy, X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27th, 2016.

Untitled College Football Comedy

I admit I’m not usually into sports comedies, but I’m VERY into Veep. So when I hear that two of its stars — funnymen Matt Walsh and Timothy Simmons (pictured above) — are writing a football comedy that’s just been picked up by Paramount, I’m damn sure of one thing: that’s a football comedy that I want to see!

Jem and the Holograms

Jem 4

Now here’s a truly outrageous casting call. (Sorry, fellow children of the ’80s.) Blumhouse’s upcoming adaptation of the fondly remembered TV musical cartoon Jem and the Holograms is launching a contest via the internet in which folks who’d like to appear in the film are invited to compete for a role by posting Jem-inspired videos online. The contest was announced at this weekend’s VidCon. For more on this “Star in Jem” opportunity, check out JemtheMovie.com.
