Vin Diesel falls hard for Jon Snow’s ex in the latest trailer for his upcoming heroic fantasy epic The Last Witch Hunterâjust one of the delights in store for you in the last Movie Morsels of this sweltering August week. We’ve also got casting updates on Kong: Skull Island and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as a very cool new photo from the set of X-Men: Apocalypse.
The Last Witch Hunter
The dilemma of immortality is examined in the latest trailer for director Breck Eisner’s The Last Witch Hunter, arriving on October 23rd. Starring real-life Dungeons and Dragons geek Vin Diesel as the titular warrior and his fellow gaming enthusiast Elijah Wood as his holy man sidekick, as well as Game of Thrones‘ Rose Leslie (who I’m hoping let out a “You know nothing, Vin Diesel!” every once in a while on set) and real-life immortal Michael Caine, this is one heroic fantasy film that looks like it’s made by nerds for nerds.

Kong: Skull Island
Sure Jurassic World was okay, but it lacked one thing Jurassic Park had, something that all great films require: one Mr. Samuel L. Jackson. Thankfully, the ubiquitous actor may again co-star with giant man-eating critters in the King Kong spin-off Kong: Skull Island. Co-starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Corey Hawkins, the film is looking to replace Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons, both of whom recently bowed out of the project. John C. Reilly and Tom Wilkinson are also likely candidates to visit the Eight Wonder of the World’s jungle home. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ film debuts March 10, 2017. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Casting continues on the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spin-off novel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Irish actress Jenn Murray (who stars in the already acclaimed upcoming Brooklyn) has just been cast as a character who will share scenes with Ezra Miller’s character, a rival to the tale’s magiczoologist hero, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). David Yates directs from a script by Rowling herself. Co-starring Colin Farrell, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston, and Alison Sudol, the film lands on November 18, 2016 in 3D and IMAX 3D.

X-Men: Apocalypse
There’s destruction aplenty visible in director Bryan Singer’s latest photo from the set of X-Men: Apocalypse, but the symbol of Xavier’s School for Gifted Mutants stands tall amidst the rubble. Scripted by X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s Simon Kinberg from a story by Dan Harris, Michael Dougherty, Kinberg, and Singer, the film will be released on May 27, 2016, and star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Lucas Till, Josh Helman, Lana Condor, and Ben Hardy.
Ready Player One
Finally today… In case you missed our story yesterday, a release date of December 15, 2017 has been announced for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Kline’s acclaimed bestselling science-fiction novel Ready Player One.
