Movie Morsels: SPIDER-MAN Reboot Villain Rumors

Heads up, True Believers! We’ve got the latest on Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man solo film in today’s Movie Morsels, as well as an extended sneak preview of the Fantastic Four reboot. Plus, a casting update on the The Purge 3 and more!

Spider-Man

Kraven

Rumors are circulating as to which villain we’ll see in Marvel’s first Spider-Man solo film. The odds-on favorite right now? Kraven the Hunter! According to SlashFilm, Heroic Hollywood “has heard that Karen Moy, Vice President of Creative Affairs over at Sony, recently picked up a copy of Kraven’s Last Hunt from Amazon. Moy has been running the story department at Sony for almost 20 years and previously had picked up comic books for Amy Pascal when she was still at Sony.”

Meanwhile Birth.Movies.Death states they’ve heard “from Kevin Feige that the villain in the new Spider-Man won’t be one that we’ve seen in any of the previous five films.” Kraven certainly fits that bill. Of course Kraven’s Last Hunt features a very grown up Peter Parker, one who’s already married to Mary Jane. So some changes would obviously need to be made.

The Purge 3

Captain America: Civil War‘s Crossbones, a.k.a. actor Frank Grillo, is back for another round of terror in The Purge 3. The actor appeared as a reluctant hero in last year’s The Purge: Anarchy. Universal, Blumhouse, and Platinum Dunes’ next Purge will also see the return of franchise creator James DeMonaco writing and directing. Due out on July 1, 2016, executive producer Jason Blum has described the film as a prequel, depicting the very first purge.

Mark Wahlberg

It looks like Battleship helmer Peter Berg will direct a movie about the Boston Marathon bombing. CBS Films’ Patriots’ Day will be distributed by Lionsgate, and potentially star New England native Mark Wahlberg as Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis, on whose account of the tragic event the film will be based.
