Movie Morsels: Neill Blomkamp’s ALIEN WON’T Undo ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: RESURRECTION, First Look at Dave Bautista’s SPECTRE Villain

Neill Blomkamp wants his Alien film to make all franchise fans happy — yes, even you, Alien 3 fans. Mark Ruffalo is looking to make fans happy too, by debuting the Hulk’s character poster from Avengers: Age of Utron. While Margot Robbie will have you positively elated if you’re keen on seeing her play Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. Plus, meet Dave Bautista’s Spectre baddie and more in today’s Movie Morsels!

Alien 5

Aliens

After much speculation that Neill Blomkamp’s Sigourney Weaver-starring fifth movie in the Alien film franchise (discounting Ridley Scott’s prequel Prometheus) would ignore the much-maligned Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, Blomkamp has come forward to set the record straight. The director tells AlloCine that he won’t be rewriting Alien film history…

“I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection,” says Blomkamp. “My favorites are the first two movies. I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal.”

Blomkamp’s next film Chappie — also starring Weaver — debuts on March 6th.

Suicide Squad

Harley Quinn wide

Hope you like the idea of Margot Robbie playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, because you’re probably going to be seeing a lot more of her in the role. In a new interview with the Arizona Republic promoting Focus (in theaters today), Robbie implies that she signed a multi-picture deal to play the DC supervillain…

“[It’s] daunting,” said the actress. “You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away. But with [Harley], it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did Suicide Squad One, Two, Three… I would be over the moon about it.”

Director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad arrives on August 5th, 2016.

Spectre

In addition to yesterday’s video blog from the set of the twenty-fourth James Bond film, Sony has seen fit to release two new images from Spectre, featuring Blue is the Warmest Color‘s Léa Seydoux (as Madeleine Swann) and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista (as henchman Mr. Hinx). Here’s what Bautista had to tell Empire about his character, in which he compares him to his best known role, Drax the Destroyer:

“When I came over to meet Sam [Mendes], I only asked two questions. I asked him if Mr. Hinx was a badass. He said, ‘Yes, he’s a badass.’ I said, ‘Well, is Mr. Hinx intelligent?’ He said, ‘Very.’ That’s what I like about Mr. Hinx. He’s very well-dressed and very well-mannered. I’m not just here to fight people. He has a sense of humour. He definitely knows what a metaphor is.”

Spectre

Seydoux remarks, “I don’t consider myself a Bond girl. I think I’m not really the stereotyped Bond girl. I feel quite different. You can’t be like, ‘Oh, James.’ You have to find something else. She’s not a fighter, she’s a doctor. She fights in another way.”

Spectre 2

Director Sam Mendes’ return to the world of 007 opens on November 6th.

Why can’t Tara Strong play Harley?

    • Josh says:

Tara would be amazing but likely suffers the same problem that Arleen does. She’s too old to introduce the character at an origin point.

  2. Charlie says:

I don’t read his comments as being that he’s trying to work all movies into on continuity. To me, it sounds like it wasn’t his intention to erase 3 and Resurrection, it’s just that the story he wants to tell works off of the first two films only.

  3. elSpanielo says:

Alien 3 was a dream, the tubes were damaged and everyone aged while they slept. Bring back Hicks and an older Newt. Sorry Bishop, you’re way too old now… unless they do a Tron Legacy or Terminator thing and CG-DEAGE Lance.

    Alien 2.5

  5. Christopher Tyson says:

This doesn’t mean he wont make them a cryo dream, or that they don’t exist in the continuity with this sequel. He just said he isnt looking to write them off. This could mean anything.

  6. Baeleth says:

Making a jab at Alien 3 when Alien Resurrection is the far lower hanging fruit?  Alien 3 was pretty good.  Resurrection is just plain bad.

    • Nikki says:

Obviously the first two are gold, I always felt eh about 3 and 4. I actually always thought that 4 was thematically closer to the first two than 3. 3 was so out there and random, and it seemed like they were trying way too hard to make ripley badass when she had already achieved that status and more in the first two movies.
