Movie Morsels: Marvel’s Black Panther Has Arrived!

It’s Thursday, and it’s time for another installment of Movie Morsels! Today, we’re on a Black Panther-watch from Captain America: Civil War, before the search for the new Han Solo goes wide. Additionally, you can see Harrison Ford reenact his injury on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and witness the first teaser trailer for Kickboxer: Vengeance! There’s even some Marvel movie tidbits courtesy of Rachel McAdams and Anna Paquin.

Captain America: Civil War

The third Captain America film is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s biggest movies to date. After the recent trailer launch, Entertainment Weekly is featuring Captain America: Civil War on its newest cover, and the magazine has debuted the best photo yet of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

“He’s definitely not the life of the party in this instance,” said Boseman during his EW interview. “I think this is something true of the comic book character and the movie. You never quite know where he stands. There’s always a bit of concealing and mystery. So I think mysterious is more his boat. Not to say there’s not charm and he can’t be a ladies’ man and all that. It’s more like if there is humor, it’s more like James Bond.”

The feature story also hints that Black Panther may find himself in conflict with both Captain America and Iron Man by the time that Civil War is finished. It’s a great spotlight on the film, which was undercut by some poorly chosen copy on the cover. More specifically, the “meow” next to Black Panther’s head and the way that it says he has “claws that a real housewife would envy.” [Entertainment Weekly]

Star Wars: Han Solo

Later this month, Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But in a few years, Disney and Lucasfilm will release a Han Solo spinoff film, and the search for a young Han has begun!

The early reports indicate that over 2,500 actors have auditioned to play Han in the new movie, including some fairly well known performers. Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Miles Teller (Fantastic Four), Hunter Parish (Weeds), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Rami Malek (Mr. Robot), Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead), Nick Robinson (Jurassic World), and Logan Lerman (Fury) were all mentioned by name.

Don’t expect any announcements to happen immediately. The Han Solo movie isn’t even slated to start filming until January 2017.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Speaking of Han Solo, the man himself, Harrison Ford went on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he reenacted his onset injury while using a Han Solo action figure. Ford even noted that he broke one leg on set, and his other leg in a plane crash earlier this year.

He also got a little carried away in his demonstration, as you can see below.

Doctor Strange

Rachel McAdams is playing the female lead in Doctor Strange, but it’s still unclear whom she will be portraying. The popular rumor is that she’ll be either Christine Palmer or Linda Carter, both of whom starred in the Night Nurse comic. During a new interview with MTV News, McAdams explained why she joined Marvel’s newest franchise.

“I just love the director,” said McAdams. “I met with Scott [Derrickson] and loved his vision, he was so passionate. And the opportunity to work with Benedict was kind of a no-brainer. And Marvel makes amazing films, so it was a complete package.”

Doctor Strange will cast its spell on moviegoers on November 4, 2016.

X-Men

Given the focus of the X-Men film franchise on the younger characters in X-Men: Apocalypse, and the spinoff films Deadpool and Gambit, it’s unclear if the original cast will reprise their roles again. Recently, Anna Paquin tweeted that she’d be willing to return as Rogue again if her character could finally fly as she does in the comic.

Rogue

That tweet came up during Paquin’s new interview with IGN, and she cleared up what she meant by that.

“Look, I’ve always said that,” related Paquin. “I’ve been saying that since they cast me when I was 16 — like, ‘Do I get to fly?’ I made some flippant remark on Twitter about if I get to fly that was like breaking news. I’m like, OK, oh for god’s sake. Humor doesn’t translate that well in written word.”

“I would come back and do whatever,” said Paquin. “These are people I’ve known for half my life. I have a lot of love for my X-Men family. I realistically wouldn’t really care what it was if they were getting the whole gang back together kind of thing. On a side note personally, I would really like to fly because flying’s cool.”

C’mon Fox, how about a Rogue solo film? Now, that would be cool!

Anchorman 3

Although Anchorman director and co-writer Adam McKay has previously downplayed the notion of bringing Will Ferrell’s signature character, Ron Burgundy back for a third movie, it seems as if McKay at least has a workable premise for the potential sequel. Ron vs. the Internet!

“We talked about doing one that was about the rise of the new media,” said McKay while speaking to Yahoo! Movies. “I also thought there was something to the idea, and who knows, maybe we will do one some day…But we’ve never got that serious about it, but it would have to be the next stage of what the media has become. And I think you’re right, I think it’s the internet. The only thing is by then Burgundy would be getting pretty old. So maybe it’s a movie we make in 10 years, when Will’s aged up and it actually makes sense that you can set it in 1997 or ’98.”

Kickboxer Vengeance

Guardians of the Galaxy and Spectre star Dave Bautista is headlining the new Kickboxer reboot as the lead adversary, Tong Po. Original Kickboxer star, Jean-Claude Van Damme is also back for this film, as his character, Master Durand trains Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi) for his showdown with Tong Po.

Kickboxer Vengeance

Kickboxer Vengeance has assembled a pretty impressive cast of Hollywood martial artists and fighters, including Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, and the late Darren Shahlavi. The first trailer for Kickboxer Vengeance is online, but it’s more of a teaser of what’s to come.
