Movie Morsels: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD’s Composer Will Score DEADPOOL

Heads up, Deadheads! We’ve got the latest on the hotly anticipated film adaptation of Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth Deadpool in today’s Movie Morsels, along with Sam Smith’s official music video for his SPECTRE theme song. Plus, the first clip from Seth Rogen‘s yuletide comedy The Night Before, a TV spot for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, and an extremely Red Band trailer for the all-star crime drama Triple 9. Enjoy!

Deadpool

Since I was raised in the era of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, when iconic fanfares like those of the Star Wars and Star Trek movies came out seemingly every month, many of today’s film scores leave me kind of cold. But one score that perfectly captured the mood and savagery of its subject matter was Tom Holkenborg’s (a.k.a. Junkie XL’s) masterful compositions for Mad Max: Fury Road. So I’m thrilled to hear that the composer will be performing similar duties for Fox’s Deadpool, which stars Ryan Reynolds as Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth. Holkenborg himself seems pretty stoked, as was seen when he announced his new gig on Twitter:

Directed by Tim Miller, scripted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and co-starring Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Andre Tricoteux, and Leslie Uggams, Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.

SPECTRE

And speaking of film soundtracks, the music video for Sam Smith’s title track for the next James Bond film has just landed online. “Writing’s on the Wall” has received mixed reviews from longtime Bond fans, but see what you think when give it a listen and look-see.

Directed by Sam Mendes, and starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci, and Ralph Fiennes, SPECTRE arrives on November 6.

Furious 8

Who will direct the next Fast and Furious movie? Franchise star Vin Diesel was reportedly considering helming the film himself. Then the actor nominated Rob Cohen, director of the first film in the series, for the assignment. Now we hear neither of the two gentlemen are on Universal’s short list, which has been narrowed down to just four names: F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), Adam Wingard (The Guest), Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me), and Will Eubank.

The Night Before

We’ve got our hot little hands on the very first clip from Sony’s Christmas comedy The Night Before, starring Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as three friends who reconnect on December 24, to presumably hilarious results. Check it out below, along with a new TV spot for the film:

Directed by Jonathan Levine, The Night Before debuts on November 25.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension

Are you ready for what’s being touted as the final chapter in the Paranormal Activity saga? Hopefully so, because director Gregory Plotkin’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension will be here on October 23, just in time to make your Halloween a little creepier. Here’s a new TV spot for the chiller, which stars Chris J. Murray, Brit Shaw, and Olivia Taylor Dudle as a family that moves into a demon-plagued new home:
