Movie Morsels: ASSASSIN’S CREED Adds Two More Stars to Its Cast

Happy Monday, Morselers! Let’s kick this work week off with some news on the Assassin’s Creed movie, the cast of which is shaping up to be quite simply terrific. Plus, we’ve got word on where you can see some exclusive advance footage of Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, the latest on the Transformers movies and M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming supernatural thriller, and three clips from what looks like Bradley Cooper’s next hit, Burnt.

Assassin’s Creed

Jeremy Irons

Heads up, Assassin’s Creed fans! We have a couple of new pieces of casting news for you today. Harry Potter vet (which admittedly describes almost every English film actor over the age of forty) Brendan Gleeson and Batman v Superman‘s new Alfred Pennyworth, a.k.a. Jeremy Irons (pictured above), will star opposite Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in director Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of the Ubisoft game series. Irons will play the father of Cotillard’s character, while Gleeson will play Fassbender’s pop. Assassin’s Creed bows on December 21, 2016.

Buckley, Steve Zahn, Jeffrey Wright, Marcus Scribner, and Frances McDormand, The Good Dinosaur opens on November 25, 2015.

Untitled M. Night Shyamalan Film

Shyamalan

After a string of duds, the once red-hot Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan, is slowly making his way out of movie jail. His latest film The Visit, which is now in theaters, has grossed ten times its five-million-dollar budget, while his TV show Wayward Pines proved a critical and audience favorite. Now we hear Professor X himself, actor James McAvoy, is in talks to star in the filmmaker’s next, as of yet untitled picture, a “supernatural thriller” to be produced by horror mogul Jason Blum. Joaquin Phoenix (who starred in Shyamalan’s The Village) was reported recently considering McAvoy’s potential role, but never signed on for it.

Transformers

It’s a dark day indeed if you dislike the Transformers movies. Hasbro’s Stephen J. Davis announced at this weekend’s MIP Junior conference in Cannes that the company has plans for at least ten years worth of Autobot-versus-Decepticon epics.

“You’re going to see a new Transformers movie,” says Davis, “coming from Hasbro and Paramount and Michael Bay and our other partners. In fact, we just finished, as some of you may have read, just an incredible experience. We decided that we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a room over a three-month period of time. Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with, shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind and written a bunch of great movies. And they plotted out the next ten years of Transformers. Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8.”

Akiva Goldsman, should anyone need reminding, also scripted Batman and Robin. Fingers crossed we won’t see nipples on Optimus Prime anytime soon.

Here’s the complete video of Davis’ talk…

Burnt

Finally today… Bradley Cooper’s latest effort looks to continue the star’s roll at the box office. In the wake of Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and American Sniper, comes Burnt, a drama starring Cooper as a disgruntled (the way we like him best) chef. Directed by John Wells and co-starring Sienna Miller, Omar Sy, Daniel Brühl, Matthew Rhys, Alicia Vikander, Uma Thurman, and Emma Thompson, Burnt makes its way to theaters on October 23rd. Here are three clips from the film…
