There is no actor more perfectly suited to playing Peter Quill’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 than Kurt Russell. This is not opinion. This is undeniable fact. So it’s great to hear Russell has begun talking to director James Gunn about playing some kind of role in the film, even if he doesn’t know what that role will be just yet.

“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this,” says Russell. “I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I don’t know anything about it. Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it! So, I didn’t realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do… it’s a little weird.”

Fingers crossed that Russell finds time to watch Guardians this holiday season and accepts his destiny as the Papa Quill.

Avatar 2

Avatar

James Cameron has just reconfirmed Avatar 2‘s release and shooting date in a new interview with the Montreal Gazette while promoting Avatar‘s new Cirque du Soleil show, titled Toruk — The First Flight.

“Christmas of ’17 is the target,” the filmmaker says. “At least, that’s what we’ve announced. But I don’t consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story. We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. It’s been about a two-year task. [We’ve finished] all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So we’re really poised to start after the first of the year.”
