Movie Morsels: First Look At The New GHOSTBUSTERS, HIT-GIRL Prequel, Tom Hanks’ Next Role

Tom Hanks is closing in on talks to play another real life captain in today’s Movie Morsels. But first, the all-new, all-female Ghostbusters make their debut, Matthew Vaughn reveals plans for Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3, Channing Tatum tells us where Gambit won’t be showing up, and Rob Zombie’s next movie is absolutely NOT what you would expect!

The New Ghostbusters

“Sometimes, weird things happen, someone has to deal with it, and who’re you going to call?”

Well, not Leslie Jones. Because she’s not on the set yet. But Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Melissa McCarthy have reported for duty on Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters movie. Production started this week and photos from the set have been leaking out at an accelerated pace.

Here are a few of our favorites that popped up throughout the day:

Hit-Girl & Kick-Ass 3

Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass

The Kick-Ass franchise is not dead! At least not if Matthew Vaughn has anything to say about it. Despite the poor reception that Kick-Ass 2 got at the box office, Vaughn revealed that he is trying to put together a Hit-Girl prequel movie that would tell the origin story of Hit-Girl and Big Daddy.

A younger Hit-Girl probably means that Chloë Grace Moretz would be recast for a prequel. But Vaughn does want Moretz and Aaron Taylor Johnson back for Kick-Ass 3 if the proposed Hit-Girl movie revitalizes the franchise.

Highest Duty

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is reportedly in final negotiations to star in director Clint Eastwood’s next film as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

Sully Sullenberger…I love that name. It’s sounds like it could have come from one of Stan Lee’s Marvel comic book scripts from the ‘60s. But Captain Sully is a real guy who saved 155 people when he pulled off an emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River back in 2009 without a single fatality. It was the Miracle on the Hudson.

Eastwood’s movie will be based on Sullenberger’s book, Highest Duty: My Search For What Really Matters, which he co-wrote with Jeffrey Zaslow.

Raised Eyebrows

Groucho Marx

So, Rob Zombie’s not doing the next Halloween movie? No problem. Zombie already has his next project lined up…and it’s definitely a surprise.

Zombie is attached to direct an adaptation of Steve Stoliar’s book Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House. The novel recounts Stoliar’s stint as Groucho Marx’s personal secretary, running among Hollywood legends including Mae West, George Burns, Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon, S.J. Perelman, Steve Allen, and of course, the other Marx Brothers: Zeppo and Gummo.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Channing Tatum

Bryan Singer’s next X-Men movie is full of mutant superheroes as the action moves to the ‘80s and Professor X finally loses his hair. But there’s at least one mutant who won’t be appearing this time.

During his AMA on Reddit, Gambit star Channing Tatum was asked if he would be making a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse. “No ma’am, or sir. I definitely will not,” was Tatum’s response. Which makes sense. Presumably the new Gambit movie will take place in the present. But I think there’s no way to reconcile Tatum’s Gambit with the one played by Taylor Kitsch who was active in the ‘80s. I think the plan is to just pretend that X-Men Origins: Wolverine never happened.

Inside Out

Inside Out

Nerdist editor-in-chief Rachel Heine got to visit Pixar HQ in Emeryville, CA to talk with director Pete Docter about Inside Out, Pixar’s latest animated feature that hits theaters this weekend.

I’ve already seen Inside Out, and it is definitely one of Pixar’s best. What’s the expression? “All the feels?” You’re gonna have ’em while watching this film.
