Movie Morsels: Nicholas Hoult Eyed for THE CROW Reboot, New SPECTRE Behind-the-Scenes Video

Nicholas Hoult has starred in some of our favorite films these last couple of years, most notably Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: Days of Future Past. So it’s heartening to hear he’s now being considered for the title role in the Crow remake. Also, in today’s Movie Morsels, we take you behind the scenes of the latest James Bond thriller at a Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico that serves as the opening scene of SPECTRE. Plus, two new Ant-Man TV spots, Halloween Returns finally gets a green light, and a third Pitch Perfect gets a release date!

SPECTRE

The latest vlog from the next James Bond film takes fans behind the scenes of SPECTRE‘s opening sequence, which takes place in the midst of a Day of the Dead parade in Mexico. Says director Sam Mendes, “I wanted the audience to be dropped right into the middle of a very, very specific, very heady, rich environment. It’s the Day of the Dead, everywhere you look there’s colour and detail and life. We’ve built floats and maquettes, the costumes are extraordinary and the craftsmanship is amazing.” SPECTRE opens on November 5th.

The Crow

The Crow

Man, the Crow reboot just cannot catch a break. After losing its leading man Luke Evans earlier this year, the production signed on Jack Huston. And now we hear that the Boardwalk Empire star has also exited the project. According to director Colin Hardy, “Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on The Crow. The Crow is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.” Fortunately, with the film currently in pre-production in Wales, Relativity is reportedly looking at “Nicholas Hoult and Jack O’Connell, among others,” for its title role. Forest Whitaker is in talks to star in another role in the film. I’m guessing he’d play Ernie Hudson’s character, Sergeant Albrecht, from the 1994 original. And I’m rooting for Hoult. As he demonstrated in Mad Max: Fury Road (pictured above) he wears a mask of white makeup quite well!

Ant-Man

Scott Lang moves ever closer to his destiny as Marvel’s tiniest titan in two new Ant-Man TV spots. Paul Rudd plays the thief-turned-hero in Peyton Reed’s film, due out on July 17th, opposite Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne and Michael Douglas as Dr. Henry Pym.

Halloween Returns

Dimension Films has announced that Halloween Returns is happening, which is said to focus on the eighteen-year-old son of a cop who’s “obsessed” with Michael Myers. *Spoiler Alert* Some sleuthing on the part of our friends at Shock Till you Drop has uncovered that Halloween II’s Deputy Gary Hunt appears as a sheriff in the new film, which indicates that Halloween Returns will be unconnected to Rob Zombie’s controversial reboot, and instead follow the continuity of the original Halloween films series. Marcus Dunstan will direct when production begins next month.

Pitch Perfect 3

It may not have made as much money as Jurassic World, but Pitch Perfect 2 has still performed well enough at the box office for Universal to greenlight another sequel. Pitch Perfect 3 was announced yesterday by the studio for a July 21, 2017 release. It will again star Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, and again be written by Kay Cannon and produced by Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions. No word yet on who will direct.

Maleficent 2

Finally today, in case you missed the news we reported earlier, Disney has greenlit a sequel to last year’s blockbuster Maleficent and has hired Linda Woolverton to write the script. It’s not yet been confirmed, however, if Angelina Jolie will return in the title role of the wicked fairy.
