Though we’ve still got months to go before Captain America: Civil War opens, Marvel is already touting its next superhero crossover epic, Avengers: Infinity War, with a fresh look at the film’s Big Bad. Also in today’s Movie Morsels, we have the latest videos from The Martian and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, word on Tom Cruise‘s next science-fiction project, casting news on the Road House remake, and more!
Avengers: Infinity War
Face front, effendi! The Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-ray (out on October 2nd) contains a featurette on the Mad Titan, Thanos, as played by Josh Brolin in Avengers: Infinity War. While a quick image of the villain flashed buy as part of Marvel’s Phase 3 montage during the studio’s presentation last year at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater, this new featurette offers our very first high-res look at Brolin’s character, wielding his almighty Infinity Gauntlet, complete with Infinity Gems.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Infinity War — Part I lands on May 4, 2018, while Part II arrives on May 3, 2019.
The Martian
Another day, another Martian video. The film’s latest viral vid offers a look at the training of Matt Damon’s title astronaut. Co-starring Jessica Chastain, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Sean Bean, Aksel Hennie, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, director Ridley Scott’s latest foray into science fiction, based on author Andy Weirâs 2011 novel of the same name, debuts in 2D and 3D on October 2.

Luna Park
Despite its lackluster box-office performance, Edge of Tomorrow (pictured above) was one of the smartest, most satisfying mainstream science-fiction movies in years. So it’s heartening to hear that its director and star–Doug Liman and Tom Cruise–are joining together to develop another film in the genre. Luna Park, a longtime passion project of Liman’s, “revolves around a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source.” The duo’s next film is the drug thriller Mena, out in January.

Roadhouse
Apparently we’re now entering phase 2 of Hollywood’s plan to remake the late Patrick Swayze’s oeuvre. After the new Point Break, we’ll get Road House, this time with UFC fighter Ronda Rousey as the rowdy title establishment’s burly bouncer. Hey, at least there’s some gender-bending going on. Now let’s hurry up and get those Ghost and Dirty Dancing remakes over with.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
Director Wes Ball is the focus of the latest featurette on Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, based on author James Dashner’s novel, the second in his The Maze Runner trilogy. Starring Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Kaya Scodelario, Patricia Clarkson, Rosa Salazar, Jacob Lofland, Aidan Gillen, and Giancarlo Esposito, the film is released on September 18th in 2D and IMAX.
Room
Brie Larson continues her winning streak with the drama Room, which premiered to much praise at this month’s Telluride Film Festival. Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and scripted by Emma Donoghue, adapting her novel of the same name about a mother and son who find themselves locked in a garden shed for seven years (!), the film bows on October 16th. Here’s the trailer…
