It’s a great time to be alive if you’re a fan of Disney remakes. Last year’s Cinderella kicked a surprising amount of ass, the new Jungle Book is garnering rave reviews, and now we hear that the studio is so satisfied with its upcoming remake of 1977’s Pete’s Dragon that it’s already enlisted the services of helmer David Lowery to direct and co-write a remake of Peter Pan. Now, I understand that many will feel they need another film version of Peter Pan like they need a hole in the head. But aside from Disney’s own 1950s animated favorite (which is still a lot of fun if one can get past the Native American stereotypes), there really hasn’t been a definitive live-action version of J.M. Barrie’s classic play and the beloved children’s novel it inspired.
