Movie Morsels: Extended FURIOUS 7 Footage, MR. HOLMES Trailer, and The Weapons of AGE OF ULTRON

Welcome to a special video edition of Movie Morsels, in which we’ve got enough advance footage to satisfy the hungriest of film fans! We’ll get things started with a generous helping of Furious 7, then serve up our second course, consisting of three (!) Avengers: Age of Ultron video set reports, accompanied by a few appetizing side orders — trailers for the next Gillian Flynn adaptation, Dark Places, and Owen Wilson’s latest, No Escape. And to finish things off, we’ll have the latest word on the next Wolverine movie!

Furious 7

USA debuted an “Extended First Look” at the hotly anticipated Furious 7 during last night’s premiere of Dig, showcasing the most footage we’ve seen yet from the film, including the harrowing skydiving sequence. Directed by James Wan, Furious 7 is in theaters on April 3rd, and features returning Fast & Furious franchise stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and the late Paul Walker; as well as newcomer Jason Statham.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The good people behind Canadian theater chain Cineplex have just released three new behind-the-scenes videos from Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring exclusive interviews with writer-director Joss Whedon, executive producer Jeremy Latcham, and Jeremy Renner; as well as a look at the film’s weaponry, which includes acid-tipped and “mind-warping” arrowheads for Hawkeye. Avengers: Age of Ultron is out on May 1st. Like you need me to tell you.

Dark Places

After the success of Gone Girl, the bar for adaptations of Gillian Flynn novels has been set pretty high. But the first international trailer for Dark Places, the next Flynn adaptation due out (from writer-director Gilles Paquet-Brenner), makes us think it could match the success of David Fincher’s Oscar-nominated thriller. Charlize Theron stars–alongside Nicholas Hoult, Christina Hendricks, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Corey Stoll–as a woman who, when she was a young girl, witnessed the massacre of her entire family at the hand of her brother, and is forced to relived the experience as an adult. A U.S. release date is TBA.

Big Game

Finnish director Jalmari Helander’s Rare Exports was one of the most pleasant indie film surprises in recent years, so are we excited that Helander’s follow-up, in which Samuel L. Jackson plays the President of the United States, who finds himself lost in the Nordic tundra and paired with a badass thirteen-year-old against a villainous Ray Stevenson, is finally getting a U.S. release? Good God, yes! Even better, we’ve got the following too-damn-cool trailer.

Mr. Holmes

The first trailer for Mr. Holmes, in which Ian McKellen stars as an aged, retired Sherlock Holmes haunted by his one unsolved case, has finally landed online. The film is directed by Bill Condon and co-stars Laura Linney and Milo Parker.

No Escape

How about one more trailer for the road? Our friends at The Weinstein Company have just released a preview of the action film No Escape, starring Owen Wilson as a U.S. businessman whose family is caught in a political uprising in Southeast Asia. Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan co-star. Directed by John Erick Dowdle, the film debuts on September 2nd.

Wolverine 3

James Mangold has finally announced when filming will begin on the third Wolverine solo film — early next year. The director tweeted the news today in response to a fan’s question.

Screenwriter David James Kelly will be scripting the film, which has a release date of May 27, 2016.
