Movie Morsels: Eddie Redmayne to Introduce New FANTASTIC BEASTS Footage

It’s Hump Day, Morselers—that special time when you realize you’ve broken the back of the work week. So let’s celebrate with the latest from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Star Trek Beyond, the next Maze Runner film, and oh so much more sweet, sweet cinematic goodness!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Beasts

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen, heard, or learned much that was new about the next film adapting the work of author J.K. Rowling. But Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is about to make up for lost time in a big way. The David Yates-directed fantasy epic will have a presence at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, at which star Eddie Redmayne will introduce new footage from the movie. You can check out the awards show, hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart, on Sunday, April 10th at 8 PM ET/PT.

Star Trek Beyond

Star Trek

After the four Fast and Furious movies he helmed, director Justin Lin can do no wrong in my book. And thought the first trailer for his Star Trek Beyond got a mixed reception from fans, I hold faith that Lin’s skill with big ensemble films will make for an exciting new chapter in the Trek saga. (And hey, at least it can’t be much worse than Roberto Orci’s “9/11 Truther” hijacking of Star Trek Into Darkness.) To celebrate yesterday’s First Contact Day (on which, in the Star Trek Universe, humans finally meet Vulcans), Lin introduced a couple of Star Trek Beyond‘s aliens in the above photo, which he posted on his website. He claims they’re played by actors with whom he’s worked before, and is offering prize to those who guess their identities! Check out the contest deets here.

The Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Maze Runner

Following star Dylan O’Brien’s mid-March accident on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, production on the film was abruptly halted. But fans can at last breathe easy, as both O’Brien and the movie will soon be back on their feet. Co-star Giancarlo Esposito, while promoting his latest movie The Jungle Book, says The Death Cure will resume production on May 15. “He’s healing very well,” states the actor. “He got put together a couple of weeks ago… He’s one tough cookie.”

A Futile and Stupid Gesture

Community

Joel McHale co-starred with Chevy Chase in four hilarious, albeit controversy filled, seasons of NBC’s Community. Now, the Soup host soon play the veteran comedian in a new Netflix biopic, directed by Wet Hot American Summer‘s David Wain. A Futile and Stupid Gesture will tell the story of National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney, who co-wrote Chase’s Caddyshack before falling off a cliff in Hawaii. Will Forte is slated to play Kenney while Domnhall Gleeson will play co-founder Henry Beard.

The Outsider

Suicide Squad

Finally today, Suicide Squad‘s Joker, actor Jared Leto, is set to star in the World War II Yakuza action thriller The Outsider. Shooting begins this fall on the Martin Zandvliet-helmed movie. The director won a heap of praise for his Land of Mine at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and if the choosy Leto is on board his next project, you can bet your sweet joy buzzer it will be just as memorable.
