Transformers: The Last Knight
The folks at Hasbro and Paramount have finally come up with a title for the fifth film to feature the ages-old war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, and possibly the last to be directed by Michael Bay. Transformers: The Last Knight (a title practically begging critics to title their reviews “About Last Knight…”) has been announced via a new Instagram video…
Mark Wahlberg returns for his second Transformers film, joined by newcomers Isabela Moner and Jerrod Carmichael. Production on The Last Knight begins June 6 in Detroit for a June 23, 2017 release.
Insidious: Chapter 4
In other sequel news… The fourth Insidious film finally has a release date and a director, announced yesterday by star Lin Shaye and actor-writer Leigh Whannel in a video much cuter than one would expect from the horror franchise…
The Jungle Book
No, not THAT Jungle Book. The OTHER Jungle Book… Mo-cap master Andy Serkis’ long-in-development take on the Rudyard Kipling classic is, despite the blockbuster reception Disney’s new version received, still on its way. In a new interview with Vulture, Serkis explained that his version will be a bit darker, and unafraid to scare the crap out of little kids:
“It’s great to scare kids in a safe environment because it’s an important part of development, and we all loved to be scared as kids, so we shouldn’t overly protect them,” Serkis says. “Kids are so sophisticated, and that is why our Jungle Book is quite darker… It’s a story of an outsider, someone who is trying to accept the laws and customs of a particular way of living and then has to adapt to another culture, a human culture, which of course he should be able to adapt to, because this is what he is. So it’s about two different species and their laws and customs, and neither are entirely right.”
It’s worth noting that Serkis’ cast is just as accomplished as that of Disney’s Jungle Book, with Serkis himself as Baloo, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Christian Bale as Bagheera, and Cate Blanchett as Kaa. The film will arrive on October 19, 2018.
Incarnate
Oh, Aaron Eckhart, what are we going to do with you… After starring in one of the most ill-conceived supernatural romps in recent years (I, Frankenstein), the actor returns to the genre in Incarnate, a project that looks to be little more satisfying than the last time Hollywood decided to tackle the subject of exorcism (in the awful Deliver Us from Evil). Well, at least Game of Thrones fans can look forward to seeing their favorite red witch Carice van Houten on the big screen. Here’s the trailer for the September 30 release…
