Movie Morsels: BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE Blu-Ray Special Features Announced

If you’re like me you’re probably heading out to theaters to see the latest and greatest Marvel movie again this weekend. But just in case Captain America: Civil War isn’t packed with enough superheroes for you, today’s Movie Morsels has the latest on Batman: The Killing Joke, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and the Booster Gold (!) movie. Plus, updates on Pacific Rim 2, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and more!

Batman: The Killing Joke

The Killing Joke

Warner Bros. continues to be pretty generous in sharing the details of its upcoming R-rated animated adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s fan-favorite comic Batman: The Killing Joke. Today, we have the the details on the special features we’ll find on the film’s Blu-ray release on August 2nd, as well as the disc’s cover art.

In addition to “an exclusive sneak peek at the next DC Universe Original Movie,” fans can expect the featurettes like “Batman: The Killing Joke – Madness Set To Music” and “Many Shades of Joker: The Tale of The Killing Joke”, as well as “From the DC Comics Vault”, featuring two 22-minute episodes from The New Batman Adventures (“Old Wounds”) and Batman: The Animated Series (“Christmas with The Joker”).

Booster Gold

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle

And in a very different corner of the DC Universe… Rest assured, Booster Gold fans, the first film to feature your offbeat hero from the future is not only still in development, but Flash/Arrow/Supergirl/Legends of Tomorrow‘s Greg Berlanti is still its executive producer—and hoping to direct! In a new interview, Berlanti remarks, “I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now. I’d probably direct that, or I would want to.”

Here’s hoping Berlanti goes with Nathan Fillion, who’s long wanted to play the character, as Booster Gold and Fillion’s friend and frequent co-star Alan Tudyk as Gold’s best buddy Blue Beetle (pictured above).

Pacific Rim 2

After securing Daredevil season 1 producer Steven DeKnight to direct, Pacific Rim 2 now has a script in development by Jurassic World screenwriter Derek Connolly. Granted, Jurassic World‘s script was far from the best thing about the 2015 blockbuster, but Connolly has also scripted the upcoming Kong: Skull Island and the Lupita N’yongo-starring sci-fi drama Intelligent Life. So someone must think the guy has potential!

Alice Through the Looking Glass

The sequel to Tim Burton’s blockbuster adaptation of Alice in Wonderland is getting some horrendous early reviews. But at least Alice Through the Looking Glass looks pretty, er, right? You and can take a lingering extended look at the film’s production in a new behind-the-scenes video from Disney…

‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ extended look:

Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Rhys Ifans, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, and Timothy Spall star in the James Bobin-directed fantasy, due out on May 27th.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

I’m hoping that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is either genuinely fun or such a complete trainwreck that it demands to be seen. No middle ground will do. Thankfully, the film’s latest TV spots (of which there are a whopping seven) have me thinking this thing might be actually a bonafide good time for the young at heart. For the rest of you, well, I hope you’re Stephen Amell fans…

The Accountant

Finally today… Before Ben Affleck dons the mantle of the Dark Knight for his first Batman solo film, the actor-director is starring in another Warner Bros. thriller, The Accountant, in which he plays a mathematics savant working for criminals, who finds himself in more trouble than even he can calculate. Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons (Affleck’s Commissioner Gordon) co-star in the October 14th release. Check out the film’s first trailer below…
