Movie Morsels: Tom Hanks Reenters The INFERNO and WOLVERINE Goes Western

Welcome back to Movie Morsels, your daily recap of the latest cinematic news!

To get you through this Tuesday morning, we’ve got the first trailer for Inferno, a brand new Zorro, updates about the next X-Men movie and Wolverine 3, the two heroes who didn’t make it into Captain America: Civil War, a Jumanji promise from The Rock, and a very funny clip from The Witch!

Movie Morsels begins now!

Inferno

It’s been 10 years since Tom Hanks starred in the adaptation of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code. Now Hanks is back for his third go as Robert Langdon in Inferno, alongside Felicity Jones’ Dr. Sienna Brooks. Of course, it just wouldn’t be a Dan Brown story without an intricate puzzle for Langdon to solve. But as you can see in the first teaser trailer for Inferno, the stakes are particularly high this time.

Inferno will hit theaters on Friday, October 28.

Z

There’s a new Zorro in town and his name is Gael García Bernal! Bernal has signed on to star in the Zorro reboot (tentatively titled Z) for director Jonás Cuarón. But this isn’t the post-apocalyptic Zorro Reborn that Hollywood has threatened to make for years, nor is it the classic Zorro of the 19th century. Instead, Z is said to take place in the “near future,’ and it is slated to begin filming this fall.

X-Men

X-Men: Apocalypse is just a few weeks away, but X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is already looking ahead to the future. According to Kinberg, the next X-Men film will take place during the ’90s, which just happened to be the era of the comic’s greatest popularity and the awesome X-Men animated series that helped spawn the live-action movies. Here’s hoping we get to see those Jim Lee designed costumes on the big screen!

Wolverine 3

There’s more X-Men related news from Kinberg, as he told Collider that the third Wolverine movie has started filming and he confirmed the rumors that it will have an R-rating.

“It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies.” said Kinberg. “It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

Wolverine 3 is slated to unleash its title hero on March 3, 2017.

Captain America: Civil War

Just when you thought that Captain America: Civil War couldn’t possibly have any more superheroes, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have revealed that both Hank Pym and his daughter Hope van Dyne were in earlier drafts of the movie. However, Markus and McFeely were particularly unhappy about Pym’s role in the script and he was dropped from the story.

As for Hope, she’ll be making her in costume debut as the Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018.

Jumanji

How do you remake Jumanji without the late, great Robin Williams? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted a message to his Instagram account in order to assure fans that Williams’ legacy will be honored in the updated take on the film.

“An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams,” wrote Johnson. “The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of ‘Alan Parrish’ will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud.”

Johnson also teased further casting announcements that may come as soon as this week and he revealed that there are five leading roles in the new Jumanji, up from the three leads in the original.

The Witch

The terrific horror film The Witch is hitting Blu-ray and DVD on May 17. ComingSoon has debuted an early glimpse of The Witch‘s blooper reel from that release, and it’s quite funny! There’s even a very Monty Python-esque moment in there.
