Movie Morsels: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Reshoots, SANDMAN News, and Chris Rock’s Marvel-ous Future?

With all the news we’ve gotten lately about Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jurassic World, there hasn’t been much talk about Avengers: Age of Ultron lately. We fix that in today’s Movie Morsels, with news on the next Marvel film, as well Avengers: Infinity War! We’ve also got some DC movie news — specifically The Sandman — along the latest clip from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and loads more!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers 3

The mucho anticipated sequel to Marvel Studios’ biggest blockbuster has some reshoots planned for January, apparently to add even more action to a no-doubt already epic experience. “The Daily Mail reports that Downey, Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Renner, Bettany, Johansson, and Tom Hiddleston have been asked to clear a space in their schedules for two-weeks in January to film additional scenes at Pinewood Studios. While director Joss Whedon may not require all of these actors, he wants them to be available if they’re needed.” But the most interesting news may be that “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War: Part 2 will shoot back-to-back, and probably at Pinewood, which isn’t too surprising. The two movies come out on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019, respectively, and it’s better to shoot them together. It also means that whoever gets the directing gig will helm both films. Currently, the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War) have been rumored for the job.”

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel

With the upcoming Age of Ultron reshoots, Badass Digest speculates that an opportunity may exist to have fan-favorite character Captain Marvel appear in the film — which would require the role to be cast very soon — as well as the Black Panther, who, until now, was scheduled to debut in Captain America: Civil War.

“In the film Ultron goes to Wakanda to get his robotic hands on vibranium, the same supermetal in Captain America’s shield. The latest version of the story that I know does not include Black Panther in these sequences, but now that we have a T’Challa hired in the form of Chadwick Boseman might the superheroic king make his way into the film? Having Black Panther show up in the post-credits scene, mad that the Avengers came and had a fight in his closed-off nation without even reaching out to him, could be excellent and set up the character for Captain America: Civil War.

“[Previous] iterations of the Age of Ultron script have ended with Captain America assembling a new team, one that appears as basically a cameo. That team, in the versions I’ve known, contains good old Captain Marvel, who is getting her own movie. With Carol Danvers almost certainly not appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (James Gunn told fans on his Facebook page that he didn’t want Richard Ryder in the sequel because he wanted to keep Star-Lord as the sole Earther in his movie, which means no Danvers), this is a great place to introduce her, even if it’s quickly.”

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

As for what’s going on with Marvel’s newest mega-franchise, director James Gunn says he hopes we’ll see a lot more of Karen Gillan’s Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, since he really, REALLY likes her…

“I have so many plans for Nebula,” Gunn tells Yahoo UK. “I love Nebula. I fell in love with the design of Nebula. I cast around that design. I fell in love with Karen [Gillian] as a person, and I love the character of Nebula… To me, she’s the Boba Fett of the movie… She’s the one that you really dig because she’s the cool one that we need to get more of. I hope to God that we get a chance to see a lot more of Nebula.”

“She’s a layered character. She’s not good or bad. I think she… has a lot of things to learn. I mean I think one of the fun things about this movie is you have a lot of characters who are not straight down the middle good or bad. The Guardians themselves are sort of like that. And Nebula is like that, The Collector is like that, Yondu is like that, and to me those are a lot of the most interesting characters in the movie.”

Chris Rock

Chris Rock

And since we’re talking Marvel… With Chris Rock’s much-praised Top Five hitting theaters this Friday, December 5th, the funnyman filmmaker could soon find his directorial skills in as much demand as his performance talent. While promoting his new comedy, Rock let slip that he wouldn’t mind tackling a film for the House of Ideas… When asked to name the top career goal on his wish list, Rock replied, “I’ve been around a long time, and the thing not to chase is stardom. It’s like chasing hits. I would just do another little movie. But don’t get me wrong: If Marvel wants to throw me something… If they want to say, ‘Hey, that little movie you made? Well here’s a big movie’ — like they did with Singer? Yeah, I’m open to that. If somebody wants to do something that crazy.”

The Sandman

Wondering what’s been brewing over at DC? Joseph Gordon-Levitt updated fans yesterday on his film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman via a Reddit AMA.

“‘Been doing a lot of work with David Goyer and Jack Thorne, working on the screenplay. We’ve been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he’s the one I want to please most.’

Goyer, meanwhile, offered his own update to Deadline, revealing that a first draft of the screenplay has already been turned in to Warner Bros. ‘I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras,’ says Goyer, ‘but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team. We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we’re moving forward, knock on wood.'”

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

We have only a couple more weeks until The Battle of the Five Armies is waged in theaters everywhere. Warner Bros. has just released a new (apparently mid-Battle) clip, in which titular hero Bilbo makes a fateful decision to the chagrin of everyone’s favorite Grey wizard Gandalf.
