More TRON 3 Rumors With Potential Title – TRON: ASCENSION

Hello, users! As you might recall, a few weeks back we brought you a round up of some of the rumors that have been circulating about the third installment in Disney’s Tron series. It had been reported that filming for a third Tron film was going to be taking place this fall up in Vancouver and that Joseph Kosinski, who directed the previous film Tron: Legacy, would be returning to direct. At the time though, nothing was confirmed and we were all left to speculate what the future of the Flynns and the The Grid may be.

There were a few things, though, that we knew for certain; namely that the movie was still in development and not pushing up digital daisies. It had long been speculated that the third film was dead in the water at Disney, but with new rumors came new life to our hopes, as well as attached writers David DiGilio and Jesse Wigutow. The two would also confirm that the cameo of Edward Dillinger, played by Cillian Murphy in Legacy, would flesh out into a bigger villain role for the third film. It was also confirmed that French music-duo Daft Punk would not return to write the score for the third film.

The rumors seem to be gaining more ground online, as a tweet from Production Weekly claims legitimacy to some of Tron’s rumors. The tweet also offers something else many have wondered about, the film’s possible title. For a while now the film has been referred to as Tron 3, or on its IMDb page as Untitled Tron Legacy Sequel. While as catchy as the second one is, and how good it would look on posters, it seems that that the film may in fact be keeping with the motif of a one-word subtitle: Ascension. A return of Kosinski would also mean a cohesive visual style for the franchise, which would be welcome if the stories with Murphy and a possible Grid invasion of the real world are going to be explored.

The tweet also claims the film is set for a five month long shoot, which is massive compared to the 60+ days used to film Legacy back in 2009. This might indicate that the film would be based more in the real world than a digitally rendered one like Legacy was. If the film does continue a story in which the programs that inhabit The Grid attempt to crossover into the real world, there is potential for some wild effects work to be done in those five months.

Disney, however, has been approached for comment but not made any official announcements as of this writing. So, for now, it seems that this will remain in the rumor mill until any sort of announcement is made. So, be on the look out this October, Vancouver friends, and if you spot a light cycle or two zooming around your city be sure to let us know.
