“Monsters, Inc.” and “Monsters University” are Everywhere

Starting today, Monsters, Inc. will be playing across the country in 3D. Seeing Mike Wazowski and James Sullivan on the big screen again stirs up a lot of nostalgia for the Disney brand, and it may be the perfect way to spend time with your family this holiday season. The film is a glowing example of how far ahead of the curve Pixar truly is, because 11 years later, Monsters, Inc. is still visually impressive and fun. The movies message of protecting childhood innocence hits pretty close to home in the wake of the Newtown tragedy, so be warned that some of the emotional punches that were only slight tugs when the movie first came out are today waterworks-inducing moments of emotional puppetry. Upon rewatching it, I connected more with Monsters, Inc. more than almost all of the films I saw this year. It really is going to be a timeless movie that will always have a place on my shelf and in the back of my head.

There was also a bit of Monster University news this week, as another image from the sequel was released.

Is this the prank that gets Mike and Sully thrown out of the scare program mentioned to us at our USC Monsters University preview? We’ll find out next summer. To celebrate the return of Mike and Sully to screens this week though, Nerdist News is giving away five Monsters, Inc. 3D posters signed by director Pete Docter. Sign up for Nerdist News and you’ll be entered for a chance to win.
