Ever since Stranger Things hit in 2016, we’ve predicted big things for its younger cast members, especially Millie Bobby Brown because of her unforgettable performance as Eleven. And while we’re still awaiting word about Stranger Things 3, Brown has already lined up her next starring role as Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes.
Deadline broke the story that Legendary Entertainment has signed Brown to star in and produce a new film series based upon Nancy Springer’s Enola Holmes novels. Brown had previously landed a major role in Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but this will be her first starring role in a major movie franchise. And if the initial film is successful, it’s likely all six of Springer’s Enola Holmes mysteries could be adapted.
Springer published her first Enola Holmes book, The Case of the Missing Marquess, back in 2006. That story established a fourteen-year old Enola as a very good detective in the shadow of her two famous older brothers. When their mother went missing, Enola was at odds with both Sherlock and Mycroft before running away and solving mysteries on her own. Many of the classic characters from Arthur Conan Doyle‘s Sherlock Holmes stories also appear in the novels, and all three of the Holmes siblings play a role in the sixth and final book, The Case of the Gypsy Goodbye.
So far, there’s no word on when the first Enola Holmes movie will go forward, and a director has yet to be named. Still, we’re very happy to see Brown take on a new leading role and we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes out for this one.
