Jimmy Kimmel has long had a passion for making everyday peopleâwalking down the street and minding nobody’s business but their ownâlook moronic in front of a national audience. And on yesterday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, he upped the ante by having Miley Cyrus go undercover as an Australian reporter named Janet and ask random passersby how they feel about Miley Cyrus hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards (on August 30 at 9pm EST on MTV).
As you might imagine, some of the respondents were a bit brash, and right off the bat it gets personal: Carl in the cowboy hat revealed that he doesn’t really care for Miley, her father Billy Ray, or her “entire family.” Speaking of Billy Ray, one of the interviewees forgets his name… and so does Janet, in a laudable commitment to character. It gets better, though: one guy actually said he would have no problem with his daughters behaving like Miley, but then he, without prompt, added that he prefers Taylor Swift. She also handsomely rewarded one person who seemed to recognize her, by giving him a peek down her shirt and asking, “Does that look like Miley Cyrus?”
With this adventure, Miley learned a couple things: she’s a leading cause of “the whole fabric of America is falling apart” and that the premise of Hannah Montana is more plausible than any of us previously realized. Our peeping friend realized it was Miley, but it seems putting on a wig is more effective at concealing identity than we thought, because we were expecting a much higher recognition rate.
