Mike Ehrmantraut’s Back In BREAKING BAD Prequel BETTER CALL SAUL

Are you guys still recovering from the tremendous series finale that was the conclusion of Breaking Bad? Yeah, us too. Well, we only have to wait another… nine months – jeez, is it really that far away? – for the recently announced prequel series, Better Call Saul. As the title implies, the show will follow the life of lawyer Saul Goodmam before he meets his most famous client, Walter White. Now, this is all well and good, but there have been some questions raised by fans in the months since the show’s development announcement, mainly in that of its cast.

Who was going to show up from Breaking Bad? And would they just be cameos? Full roles? Well, today, we got the answer to perhaps the most important one on the list. In a report by Deadline Hollywood, Jonathan Banks has signed on as a series regular to reprise his role as everyone’s favorite P.I., Mike Ehrmantraut. According to Deadline, “Odenkirk and Banks are the only actors set for Better Call Saul so far. There has been a lot of speculation about which characters from Breaking Bad would make the transition to the prequel. In an interview, Gilligan had suggested that Mike would be a character he would love to see on the new series.”

So it seems Mike will be around from the word go. That, or the first episode will feature Saul meeting Mike for the first time. Either way, this means Mike Ehrmantraut is going to be returning to our television screen. And perhaps his story will seem even more tragic, given the way his journey ends in the final season of Breaking Bad. No matter what your feelings are on the idea of Better Call Saul (which will be co-created by Vince Gilligan and Breaking Bad writer Peter Gould), you can’t deny there’s nothing but a feeling of joy to be had over the news of more Mike.
