Microsoft Introduces Holographic Wearable Device, Hololens

Microsoft had a big press conference this morning where they unveiled a host of new Windows 10 features, including Xbox One streaming to any Windows 10 device, cross-platform play between the PC and Xbox One for the game Fable Legends, and a gaming DVR included within the new OS’ infrastructure. One of the highlights of the event, however, was the reveal of Microsoft’s new head contraption, Hololens – a wearable device designed to project 3D holograms into your everyday world. Slated to release at some point within the “Windows 10 timeframe” (which is this year), this thing sounds like the makings of what a holographic Minecraft would encompass. But please, don’t take my word for it, check out Hololens in action for yourself in this following bit:

Hololens functions more as an augmented reality device than it does a virtual reality, so I wouldn’t say this thing rivals the Oculus Rift or PlayStation Morpheus more than it does Google Glass. That said, I’m sure there will be a slew of comparisons between the Oculus Rift, Morpheus, and Hololens leading up to release of each of these devices.

Which one of these wearables seems the most appealing to you? Are you more fond of augmented reality vs virtual reality? Warp your innermost thoughts into the comments below.
