Microsoft Announces Xbox One Chatpad and FIFA Bundle

After an epic Gamescom press conference, the Xbox Twitter feed has been full of news teasing new hardware and software in the coming months. One of the biggest “Finally!” moments came with their reveal of the Xbox One version of the controller chatpad.

On the Xbox 360, the device was one that players either used frequently or didn’t bother with at all. It’s not a necessary peripheral, but it does make life much easier when it comes time to type in Netflix account IDs or credit card information. With the One’s renewed push on the Xbox line of Smart Glass apps for mobile devices, it was unclear if Microsoft planned on introducing a version for the newer system at all. Thankfully, on Tuesday they confirmed they are indeed bringing speedy thumb-based typing into the current generation. As an added bonus, the Chatpad comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, meaning you can plug your existing headphones directly into the controller while the Chatpad is connected.

Not to be left out, the EA Access program that was announced earlier this year at E3 finds itself taking center stage in a brand new hardware bundle. The FIFA 16 Xbox One Bundle will be priced at $399 for a 1TB system, a copy of FIFA 16, and a full year of the EA Access service, which itself is a $30 value. Access provides early access to new games, as well as access to an existing catalog of EA games.
