Meet The New Team of VOLTRON LEGENDARY DEFENDER

Next week, the adventures of Voltron will continue in Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix. But just because most of the names are the same doesn’t mean these are the same characters from the previous incarnations!

Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra veterans Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos have reimagined Voltron from the ground up. And that means that some of the characters have been completely reworked. To illustrate these changes, the official Voltron twitter account has released short bios for the series’ six leading characters: Keith, Lance, Pidge, Shiro, Hunk, and Princess Allura.

Voltron Legendary Defender Allura

Allura has arguably undergone the most changes. As noted in her bio, she’s not the pilot of the Blue Lion as she was in the original series, but Allura will apparently be flying the castle itself into battle! She’s also been in stasis for over 10,000 years, which appears to indicate that she was alive when Voltron was first created.

Voltron Legendary Defender Shiro

Shiro is also getting some major changes. For starters, he’s not called Sven on this show, and he’s sporting a cyborg arm. That’s a detail that wasn’t apparent in the early trailers for this series. Shiro is also the oldest member of the Voltron team and the leader, a role that has traditionally fallen to Keith. Of course, this could be a big set up for Shiro to meet the same fate as Sven, with Keith taking over Black Lion and Allura formally joining the team. But we’d be surprised if Sven didn’t last until at least the first season finale.

You can read the rest of the Voltron Legendary Defender bios in our gallery below. Every episode of the first season will debut on Friday, June 10.
