What Will the Post-INFINITY WAR MCU Look Like?

Since the beginning of their Cinematic Universe in Iron Man, Marvel has impeccably cast its leading heroes on the big screen. Both Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Hemsworth seem like they were born to play Iron Man and Thor, respectively. However, Chris Evans has truly been something special as Captain America. Not only has Evans perfectly embodied Cap’s body and soul on screen, he’s also lived up to Cap’s reputation even when he is out of character. However, Evans has once again indicated that his time as Cap is drawing to a close—today’s Nerdist News is examining just what that means for the future of the MCU.

Join host and wielder of the last Infinity Stone, Jessica Chobot, as she breaks down Evans’ latest comment on his future with Marvel. Remember, Evans signed a six-film deal with Marvel that covered the Captain America trilogy and the first three Avengers films. During a new profile in Esquire, Evans reiterated his choice to step aside from the role after Avengers: Infinity War (and presumably its untitled sequel), citing the immense toll that it has taken on his body. It’s not easy for anyone to be in shape like Captain America, even when you’re Chris Evans!

But there’s no reason to fear, Marvel fans. This day has been coming for a while, and there are at least two viable plans to deal with Evans’ departure. As much as we don’t want to see Evans go, Sebastian Stan is signed to a nine-picture deal and he has previously indicated—to us!—that Bucky Barnes could be the next Captain America:

Alternately, Anthony Mackie‘s Falcon could become the next Cap, since both Bucky and Falcon took over the role in the comics. And there is always the possibility Marvel recasts Steve Rogers after Infinity War, but no one seems to be ready for that just yet. If Downey and Hemsworth follow Evans out the door, then we could be looking at a very different Avengers lineup for the future. That could mean the rise of a New Avengers team, with Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and more!

How do you think Marvel should handle Evans’ departure from the MCU? Raise your shields and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
