Matt Groening’s New Animated Fantasy Series DISENCHANTMENT Shares First Images and Release Date

In 2016, Netflix announced it was developing a new animated series from The Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening, and considering his previous two cartoons that was more than enough to have us frothing with anticipation like Barney waiting for Moe to finish pouring his beer. Then we learned it would be a Game of Thrones-esque show set in a crumbling Medieval kingdom and that was basically our “just hook it to my veins!” moment. And now that the streaming site has released the premiere date and first images for the show, we’re ready to grab a cask of ale and binge the whole thing.

Netflix announced the first season of the series, an adult fantasy comedy set in the world of Dreamland, will debut on August 17, and they also shared the first look at the show. Like Futurama it is drawn in the style of The Simpsons (or if you’re a Matt Groening purist, of Life in Hell), although the characters on the show actually look even more like Springfield’s denizens than those of Futurama did. That elf looks like spiritual ancestor of Bart Simpson, which considering Bart’s behavior might end up being canon.

The first season will run for 20-episodes and be voiced by Futurama favorites like Billy West, John DiMaggio, and Maurice LaMarche, and will also include Eric André, Abbi Jacobson, and Matt Berry. As though we needed anymore reason to look forward to it.

“Created by Matt Groening” was really all we needed to hear.
