Matt Damon is going to be Bourne again, and now we know a teeny bit more about where and when the new film will take place. Although Matt Damonâs last Bourne film â The Bourne Ultimatum â came out eight years ago, the upcoming Bourne 5 will pick up Jason Bourneâs story 12 years later. Damon confirmed this detail in a new interview with Variety.
âYouâll find the character â like The Bourne Ultimatum, the third act actually in the movie dovetails with the third act of The Bourne Supremacy. So technically when the Bourne character disappears, itâs still 2004. So when this next one comes out in â16, it will have been 12 years â in movie years â that the character as been off the grid. So whatâs happened in those intervening years gives you a story.â
Damon related that the fifth Bourne movie is currently halfway through production and on a break through the holidays. More intriguingly, Damon also revealed most of the filmâs major settings.
âWe started in September but theyâre going dark for most of December and cutting basically the first two acts,â said Damon. âAnd then we have the third act and then whatever we owe from the first two actsâ¦We were in Tenerife, which is supposed to be Athens. It would be like a nighttime riot scene to kind of start the movie. And then England, Berlin a little bit for about a week, and a little bit in D.C. Then weâre going to [Las] Vegas for the third act⦠Big car chase on the strip.â
Bourne 5 will reunite Damon with director Paul Greengrass and co-star Julia Stiles, who will reprise her role as Nicky Parsons. New to the Bourne film series are Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Ato Essandoh, and Vincent Cassel, who is said to be the filmâs new villain.
Universal Pictures has Bourne 5 set to premiere on July 29th, 2016.
