Marvel’s New ‘Totally Awesome’ Hulk Stands Revealed!

At the beginning of the summer, Marvel teased some major changes in the upcoming All-New, All-Different Marvel relaunch this fall. Those changes included several new titles, and new characters taking over the roles of Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Hulk.

While Marvel openly touted Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales making his way to the new Marvel Universe and X-23 as the All-New, All-Different Wolverine, the company held back on revealing the new Hulk. But today, the secret is out…and this is your SPOILER WARNING if you don’t want to know who will star in the new series, Totally Awesome Hulk!

And the new Hulk is…Amadeus Cho, the Asian-American supergenius created by Greg Pak and artist Takeshi Miyazawa in 2006. Amadeus Cho went on to play a large role in World War Hulk, Incredible Hercules, The Mighty Avengers, and the “Time Runs Out” storyline that led into Secret Wars.

“Amadeus came to mind for a lot of different reasons. One of them is that physically, he’s like Banner: he’s the 98-pound weakling who’s had everything but the physical aspect to make him seem super cool,” said Marvel Editor-in-chief Axel Alonso while speaking to Entertainment Weekly. “And secondarily is that he’s so different from Banner. He shares the monstrous intellect but he’s so different — he’s a teenage kid, who’s hasn’t lived much yet. When Banner inherited the burden of being the Hulk, he was an adult. And I think that it showed in the way that he responded to it. Amadeus is a plucky kid. He’s got a chip on his shoulder, he’s the fifth or sixth smartest guy in the world according to the official rankings, and I think he’s just going to carry himself very differently with that power.”

One of the ways that Amadeus Cho differs from Bruce Banner is that he loves being the Hulk. It’s not a burden for him in the way that it was for Banner. Of course, this begs the question about what happened to Bruce Banner after Secret Wars, but that will probably come out during the Totally Awesome Hulk series.

Joining Pak on the Totally Awesome Hulk comic is artist Frank Cho, who will stick around for at least the first story arc. Totally Awesome Hulk # 1 will be released this fall.
