Marvel’s LUKE CAGE Adds Theo Rossi and Rosario Dawson

Mike Colter will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Luke Cage later this year on the Jessica Jones series. But the Luke Cage solo live-action series appears to be heating up before its planned debut next year.

Theo Rossi and Rosario Dawson have reportedly been added to the cast of Luke Cage, alongside Colter and Alfre Woodard. Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple, which she originated on Daredevil. She is also slated to reappear in the second season of Daredevil and in Jessica Jones as well. In Marvel’s comic book universe, Claire Temple was originally one of Luke Cage’s love interests.

For more on Rosario Dawson/Claire Temple’s increasingly important role in Marvel’s Netflix series, our own Dan Casey weighed in on a special video report:

Rossi’s character in Luke Cage is described as “relentless and menacing, smooth and manipulative, street smart and controlling.” His role is rumored to be Shades, a.k.a. Alvarez, a longtime enemy of Luke Cage from the comics. Woodard’s character is rumored to be an updated version of Cage’s nemesis, Black Mariah.

Prior to Luke Cage, Rossi was best known for playing Juan Carlos “Juice” Ortiz for seven seasons on Sons of Anarchy. He has also appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, CSI: Miami, Lie To Me, Hawaii Five-0, Alcatraz, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Dawson’s most notable projects include Men in Black II, 25th Hour, Sin City, Clerks II, Rent, Unstoppable, The Rundown, Trance, and Seven Pounds.

Marvel and Netflix haven’t officially announced a launch date for the Luke Cage series, but it will probably happen after Daredevil Season 2 premieres. That would make late 2016 the most likely time for Luke Cage to premiere.
