Netflix Confirms Premiere of Marvel’s JESSICA JONES in Late 2015

Great news, my fellow Marvelites! At the Television Critics Association’s Summer Press Tour today in Los Angeles, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that the network will debut its second original Marvel TV series (after this year’s terrific Daredevil) by the end of 2015. Jessica Jones, based on the character created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos for their acclaimed comic Alias, will premiere sometime in the fourth quarter of this year, most likely in November or December.

Starring Krysten Ritter (pictured above) as the titular superhero turned private investigator, Jessica Jones will also feature David Tennant as her archenemy Dr. Zebediah Killgrave (a.k.a. The Purple Man) and Mike Colter as the super-powered Luke Cage, Jones’ boyfriend and the eventual father of her child. (Cage will receive his own Netflix series next year.) Jessica Jones co-stars Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval.

While only the briefest of scenes from the show (which began shooting in February) was included in the sizzle reel the network presented to TCA attendees — a shot of Ritter walking down a street and opening a door — executive producer Melissa Rosenberg, who developed the series, was on-hand, and referred to Jones as an “incredibly flawed, damaged, interesting character regardless of gender. It was the character that drew me.”

Sarandos further confirmed that all four of Netflix’s Marvel series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) will cross over into its Defenders series, and that some of the series (such as Daredevil) will have multiple seasons beforehand.

Are you looking forward to Jessica Jones? Let us know below!
