Marvel Reveals Why the Avengers Lost to Thanos

We have some amazing news for Star-Lord: he no longer has to shoulder the blame for the Avengers losing to Thanos. Well, that is if he still had shoulders and wasn’t a mound of dust on Titan. Still! Peter Quill can rest (in peace) easy, because the new prelude comic book for Captain Marvel puts the divided team’s failure to stop the Snappening from happening on old, unresolved problems. But that’s not all it reveals, because we now have a much better idea of why Nick Fury was hesitant to page Carol Danvers while Earth’s mightiest heroes were in the fight for half the universe’s life. And that could hint at just how important she will really be in Avengers 4.

Dan Casey leads today’s Nerdist News, which looks at the prelude comic. The supplemental comics often rehash things we already know while filling in some details about what people have been doing between movies. While we still got some of that in these pages, the story also had some actual, meaningful insight from Fury about how Iron Man and Captain America’s inability to put aside their differences helped doom the Avengers’ efforts to stop Thanos. More importantly, it might help explain exactly why he didn’t call on Carol Danvers sooner, and just how big her role will be in the future of the MCU.

We realize half the universe will be depending on Captain Marvel in Avengers 4, but nobody is going to be more relieved to see her than Star-Lord. You just know that pile of dirt has felt terrible about the way Infinity War ended.

What do you think? Could a united Avengers team have beaten Thanos? Will Captain Marvel help make the difference? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
