MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Set to Heavy Metal ‘Yakety Sax’ Is Its Purest Form

Ever since Mad Max: Fury Road released into theaters back in May, it has been tough trying to explain what the film is. Simply filling them in on the plot doesn’t do the film justice, and just referring to it as chaos is underselling the film. Honestly, nothing has sold that film better than the original trailer that was released for it, doing exactly what it was meant to. Colorful, chaotic, operatic, and beautiful while also being ugly, weird, and dirty. To best sum up the fun of the film, though, we turn to 6S Films’ Camden Remington and his short video. Remington’s video sets a montage of car crashes, fights, and chases from the film to a heavy metal cover of “Yakety Sax” by Eric Calderone. The resulting video is titled Yakety Max, and it is glorious.

Some may, or may not, recognize “Yakety Sax” as the theme song to the old Benny Hill show, which tended to involve some sort of crazy chase around town set to the song. So, if it is meant for chases, then boy did it get the king of all chases. An interesting tidbit about “Yakety Sax” is that is also incorporates part of another song, called “Entrance of the Gladiators,” which most will recognize more as the circus theme or the clown theme. While it is now heavily connected to those concepts as a screamer march, it was originally conceived as part of a military march by composer Julius Fučík. This version, however, gets to goad the War Boys of the post-apocalypse to war, instead of Czech soldiers of the later 19th century.
