Marvel Reveals Plans for a ROGUE ONE Comic Book Adaptation

Marvel Reveals Plans for a ROGUE ONE Comic Book Adaptation

Even before the first Star Wars movie was released in 1977, the story was adapted as a comic book by Marvel. Ever since, each film in the franchise has been adapted by either Marvel or Dark Horse Comics. Now, much to the surprise of no one, Marvel is keeping the tradition alive by releasing an adaptation of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But this adaptation won’t simply recreate the script, and it will have additional scenes that didn’t make it into theaters.

Entertainment Weekly broke the story about the Rogue One comic, and teased the first issue’s cover on its twitter account.

Writer Jody Houser and artist Emilio Laiso will be the creative team of the Rogue One miniseries, and Houser told EW that the comic is going to take advantage of some of the lost moments that didn’t make the final cut of the film. “The comics will definitely expand on what was seen in both Rogue One the film and the novelization. Lucasfilm and Gareth Edwards had a bunch of ideas for extra scenes and character moments that didn’t make it into the film. I’m having a lot of fun playing around with those.” She added that she found “something really compelling about the trio of Bodhi, Jyn, and Cassian. You have the new convert, the lapsed believer, and the life-long devout thrown together to work for a common goal. That’s a dynamic I’m excited to explore further.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story #1 will be released in April.
