Marvel’s Hawkeye Will Star in OLD MAN LOGAN Prequel Series

Nearly ten years ago, Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven teamed up for the Old Man Logan storyline that heavily influenced the Logan movie that arrived in theaters earlier this year. In Millar and McNiven’s story, Logan was paired with an unlikely partner: Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye for a cross-country mission. And while a version of Old Man Logan is currently running around in the Marvel Universe, the elder Hawkeye’s story was thought to be over until now.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Marvel will launch an Old Man Hawkeye 12-issue miniseries with writer Ethan Sacks and artist Marco Checchetto. It’s going to be a prequel to Old Man Logan and take place five years before that story, when Hawkeye still had his eyesight. In this timeline, the villains have complete control of the United States and most of the heroes are either dead or in hiding. That’s actually a major part of this story, as Hawkeye attempts to avenge his fallen comrades before he goes completely blind.

One of the lingering threads from Old Man Logan was the revelation that Hawkeye married Peter Parker’s daughter, and their daughter became a corrupt version of Spider-Woman. That seems like something that could and should be explored in this new prequel. Considering one of Hawkeye’s motivations in Old Man Logan was to reestablish a new generation of superheroes, it may also show us some of Hawkeye’s previous attempts to form a new Avengers team.

Another strong possibility for this series is that other surviving heroes and villains could also appear, but Marvel is holding off on those potential reveals at the moment. We’ll learn more when Old Man Hawkeye #1 takes aim at comic book stores in January 2018.
