Marvel has said that War of the Realms is going to be their biggest event since Secret Wars and with a massive announcement today the company is off to an unexpected–and for fans of the McElroys, an exciting–start. Yep, you’re not imagining things: the minds behind My Brother, My Brother and Me and The Adventure Zone are heading over to Marvel Comics to write a new miniseries as part of the sprawling crossover.
It looks like their story will essentially be a DnD campaign featuring a mix of Marvel’s top-tier young heroes and deepcut classic characters. Over at the official website, the publisher gushed about the project and its creative team. “The creators of the blockbuster podcast and #1 New York Times Bestselling graphic novel The Adventure Zone bring their talents to Marvel for a wild five-issue limited series romp through the massive event! Earth is at war, besieged by an army of Frost Giants, Trolls and Fire Goblinsâand the mighty Thor is nowhere to be found! But could it be that the key to turning the tide isâ¦Thorâs baby sister? Journey into mystery with Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Wonder Man, and Balder the Brave as they go on an epic quest to save Earthâs only hope! (And, yes, deal with diaper duty.)”
The set up for the rest of the event was explained by writer Jason Aaron âThe story really begins when that war thatâs been brewing for years in the pages of Thor explodes here in Midgard,â he said, referencing Earth as the Asgardians do. âAnd at that point, itâs bigger than just a Thor battle: everyone, everyone, becomes a part of that battle.â
Fans of the McElroys already know that the brothers have huge imaginations, and we can’t wait to see what weird, wild, and wonderful stuff they bring to the Marvel Universe when the first issue drops on April 10th!
