Itâs been a big day for Star Wars news at Disneyâs D23 Expo. But that doesnât mean that Marvel Studios didnât come out to play!
Marvelâs Kevin Feige welcomed Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie to the D23 stage before unveiling the first extended preview from Captain America: Civil War. There are SPOILERS AHEAD in the description for the preview, so consider yourself warned!
The footage begins with Falcon unveiling the MCU version of Redwing, which is a drone that he uses to scout for the threats. Captain America and Black Widow take on Crossbones, but Cap is taken aback when Crossbones mentions Bucky/The Winter Soldier. The end credits scene of Ant-Man is revisited when Cap asks Bucky if he remembers him. Tony Stark appears in the video and says that he wants to punch Cap in his âperfect teeth,â Black Panther and Martin Freemanâs character are briefly seen before Hawkeye and Black Widow fight each other. The teaser ends with Ant-Man meeting Cap and Scarlet Witch for the first time…and he acts like a complete fanboy in front of the Avengers.
Thereâs still one week left of filming for Captain America: Civil War. Evans and Mackie flew in from Germany to be a part of D23.
One person who couldnât make it out to D23 was Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch. He is doing a play at Londonâs West End, but Cumberbatch did send along a video greeting to fans in which he âaccidentallyâ flashed the Star Trek “Live Long and Prosper” salute before promising “Girls, cars, explosions, oh, and a bit of astral projection — you know, the usual fare.”
Because Doctor Strange doesnât begin filming until November, Marvel didnât actually have any footage to show off. Instead, Feige unveiled a Doctor Strange sizzle reel with concept art from the movie which tracked Strangeâs quest to heal his hands and his first encounter with the Ancient One, before things got really weird with some Inception-style visuals and the depiction of Strangeâs mystical powers and his journey into another dimension.
Captain America: Civil War will be out on May 6, 2016, while Doctor Strange will follow on November 4, 2016.
